Eleven volunteer emergency medical technicians in Petersburg respond to rescue calls with one ambulance and carryall. There are three first responders.
Fire Protection
Fire protection is provided in Petersburg by a 35-member volunteer fire department. The department provides protection for the rural areas around Petersburg, as well as Raeville, an unincorporated community in Boone County. There are 28 fire hydrants in Petersburg. The fire insurance classification inside the corporate limit is 7; outside it is 9. Approximately $6,100 is spent annually on fire protection. The Petersburg fire hall has been renovated in 2010-2011 with use of local funds.
Rescue Squad
There are 11 EMT’s and three first responders.
Law Enforcement
Police protection, as well as E-911 service, is provided locally through the Boone County Sheriff’s Department and a sheriff’s deputy who lives in Petersburg. The Nebraska State Patrol also assists in law enforcement.
